Pancake art

So we've attended Fairfax Community Church three weekends in a row now. This past weekend, the 2nd grade teacher invited us to her home for an animal pancake breakfast. The entire family was invited - all the boys like pancakes - and I figured it was a great way to meet some people. Ms. Betty's husband was the artist and awesome!! He could make any animal the kids asked for. This is a tradition they've been doing for the 2nd graders (and families) for over 20 years. Here are some of the pictures I got.

Here is Ms. Betty's husband working on Harrison's 2nd animal pancake. His is the one closest to him - a T-Rex. These pancakes were big, but Harrison ate 2...and some sausage. Ms. Betty even had homemade blackberry jam (for the adult Norwegian pancakes) and homemade caramel syrup!!! mmmmmmmmm!!!

Here are Harrison and Elijah enjoying their animals in the sun room. Ms. Betty is so sweet. She had each child sign in once they arrived and then write their own nametag.

Here he is making the 1st round of pancakes for Harrison and Elijah. He did it all freehand and knew exactly what order to do things in so that when he turned it over some parts were darker than others to define the animals' shapes.

Here is Harrison's animal.....an elephant with mud on it! :)
and Elijah's.......a peacock!

Yes - Zachary chose not to attend as he wanted to play with his new friend, Mark, across the street.....only to find out he was sick today. :(
