Who knew Harrison was so stubborn??!!

A rule at our house: you must at least TRY everything on your plate. If you want to have dessert, you must do more than try. We'd been making a fruit salad all week long (blueberries, oranges, strawberries, grapes, apples, etc. with a little o.j. mixed in). Anyway, Harrison doesn't like a lot of fruits, so we had just been letting him have a banana or something else. For lunch yesterday we told him he had to try some of the fruit salad - and the bowl I gave him was small and only had 2 pieces of a fruit he didn't like! He refused to eat it.

So, as normal, he was only allowed water until dinner at which point he was given the fruit first (he had been warned at lunch that the fruit would be served to him first at dinner). Fridays are a special night where the boys stay up late and watch a movie. Harrison refused to eat the fruit again......multiple warnings reminding him that:
  1. no fruit/dinner - he misses the movie
  2. no fruit/dinner - he goes to bed
  3. no fruit/dinner - breakfast in the morning starts with the fruit as his brothers are starting with the weekend sugary breakfast
  4. the process was taking SO long, he almost made it too late for me to go grab the movie at which point he would've had to explaing to his brothers why THEY weren't getting to watch a movie
He still didn't eat. So he went to bed.

This morning, still didn't want to eat so he, on his own, went back upstairs to bed. I went up around 10 to give him some water and try and talk it over with him again. He drank a few sips of water and started throwing up!! I think this finally jolted him. He came downstairs. I even replaced the cut up apples in his bowl with grapes - after being cut you know apples brown quickly and they were cut yesterday!

He then had a nice helping of french toast sticks and Pop Tarts!

I tried to commend him some for sticking to his guns. I reminded him, however, that I was his mommy and I wasn't trying to get him to do something bad. Sometimes we need to be thankful for what we are given and just eat it! That stubborn attitude would be great when someone comes along that IS trying to get him to do something wrong. I've already seen tendencies for Harrison to be a 'following loner' - if that makes sense. Hopefully I can help him learn to harness this stubborn will to make wise decisions in the future! :)
